PostSubject: Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars   Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars Icon_minitimeTue Mar 18, 2014 7:40 am

What a parlava changing the bars on my bike has turned out to be! My Mate said that we shouldn’t use the 10mm bolts without a sleeve inside the riser which have a void of 14mm and, also there would be difficulties tightening them down and keeping them square as the head would not be captive so, he suggested that I find a small local engineering company and get them to turn down the 14mm original bolts to 10mm as they leave the riser, that way the head would be captive, the bolt body would fill the void in the riser and the threaded end would pass through the sleeve in the void bush on the yoke.
Simple you would think eh? Wrong. The  first company I asked to do the job said yes, easy, take a couple of days, a week later they still hadn’t done it! So, I found somebody else (yesterday) and they said yes, ok. That was in the morning, around lunchtime I got a call saying they were ready, great I thought! So, off I went to collect them and, hey, they were wrong! They had turned down the whole body of the bolt to 10mm so, now they are making sleeves for the riser voids, should be ready today!
I am now imagining what difficulties lie ahead when I finally get to fit the risers and offer up the bars!!
Never a dull moment round here!

Next installment to follow!

Will look forward to the "next instalment".  Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars 3213823784
It amazes me how some companies that are supposed to be respected for what they do can make such a bollox of such a simple job.  Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars 474255

The sleeve in the yoke that the bolt passes through is a few mm proud of the yoke so, I have washers that will sit inside the riser, they just need drilling out to 17mm to go over the sleeve on the yoke then I can fit the risers securely.

They really look good, love the change of bar style.  Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars 3498837457   Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars 276246

I am shocked at how good the standard cruiser style of bars look on the newer style of M800. Very impressed with them, much better than I would of thought. I am sure the comfort while riding will be greatly increased with a more relaxed position.

They do look rather good don't they?
Bars and risers are from a 2008 VL800 K7.
They might need to angle down a touch, if you look closely it appears that the switches are a tad too high!
Makes a big difference with the mirrors, rearward vision is much improved. All round I'm very pleased with the transition.

Graham

Hi Mr. Kfc1404
Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars 804997 but i like more the standard ones. I have also one M800 but a 2010 bike.
When i sit down and as soon as i put my hands on the handle bars…my goodness… Changing the bars from M800 ones to cruiser bars 1218875559
All the custom/cruiser bikes i had ride for test and owned, for me, this one has the perfect position for the hands and feet.
But of course, it's only my opinion.
