Programmable Gear Readout

Has anyone had experience with an installed Dakota Digital PGR-1000 Series Programmable Gear Readout? It mounts to the handle bar and reads out 1st through 5th gear after going through the setup process. Anyway, I've had mine on the bike since around 2010, and am now seeing error messages pop up after several attempts to reset and go through setup. It works initially, but after a few miles, the blinking error messages start. Just wondering if anyone else has one of these, and whether you've had any problems after some years. It's been so long, I need to take the seat off and chase down wiring for ignition wire, neutral switch wire, speed sensor wire, and lastly, how I have this attached to the negative side of the ignition coil. I'll start from the coil first since I'm thinking that's the highest source of heat that may have the wire now exposed and perhaps shorting out somewhere. Bike is an 2006 Suzi Boulevard C50.
