Boooooo.... Flat battery Empty
PostSubject: Boooooo.... Flat battery   Boooooo.... Flat battery Icon_minitimeFri Sep 28, 2012 2:29 pm

After week after week of non stop rain I was delighted to see the weather perk up last night. Got all my bike gear on, removed the usual flotsam & jetsom form the garage to actually dig my bike out, and the bloody thing wouldn't turn over.

I'm guessing it's just a flat battery....

I did put a new battery on a couple of years ago, but I guess lack of use this lousy Summer has taken it's toll. I'm told you can't charge bikes with a regular car battery charger. But anyone know if it's OK to try jump leads from my car to kick it into life?

beyond that I'm stumped....

If anyone's got any smart ideas I'd love to hear 'em.

cheers

I'm not sure about the jump leads.

Probably the easiest way is to get a buddy to give you a push and try to bump start it?

Just looked it up, 12 volt battery from the car is fine to jump start the 12 volt battery in the bike.

Thanks again guys. Just ordered OXIMISER 900 for ÂŁ33 which is a really good price. Here's the link if anyone else is looking for one.

I wouldn't be without one, even if you don't have the opportunity to keep it plugged in all the time, it is so easy to activate and boost the battery when you do.
The problems normally occur with batteries when they are left unused in very cold conditions or you do lots of short trips which stop the battery from being fully recharged.

I bought the oxford maximiser 3800 after Mr I recomended it some time ago as I needed one that would do the bike and car, it even has a high boost charge if needed. It was a bit expensive but as it was able to do everything it was much better for me than buying a seperate bike and car charger.

As the connector leads use a standard part found in Maplins I have made up permanent connections that are left on my car, the wife's car, both my bikes and my portable battery booster for a real quick connect on everything I might use the Optimiser on.

I have got one of those as well and I couldn't fault it. I was bought the 3800 as a prezzie by the Mrs because George Whites were doing one of their crazy knock down sales but if I hadn't been, I would not have changed from that model as it does what it says on the box.
