Ok so I installed the 2" risers on to my C800 today.
As you know from another thread I was not happy when the arrived because they were not an exact match (as advertised) to the stock risers but were infact chrome instead. Anyway I got over my initial disapointment after looking at the front end for a while this morning and realising that they will probably look ok as there are numerous places where brushed steel sits very well with full on chrome.

Before starting this I would advise you to cover your tank to avoid any possible damage & if possible have a helper. I did manage it ok on my own so don't worry if thats the way it's got to be but it is a little difficult at times.

Ok to start you will need to undo the nuts that are under the triple tree that hold the stock risers in place, for this you will require a 19mm socket. I loosened these off but only took the nut right off when I was ready to take the risers off the triple tree.

* 2" Riser Install Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0110
Next I used a pointed object (knife) to pop out the little plastic chrome caps that sit on top of the bolts that hold the top section of the stock risers in place & the handle bars in place.
When undoing the hex/allen bolts you will reqire a 6mm hex/allen. Be carefull when you do undo them as when they finally release there grip on the bars they will spin if not held.

* 2" Riser Install Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0112
When you have finally released the handle bars and moved them out of the way you will see the bolt head inside the stock riser. Now simply give the bolt nuts the last few turns by hand that are under the triple tree and the stock risers will come away in your hand.

* 2" Riser Install Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0113
Here you can see the difference that a 2" riser will make, when comparing it to the other one in the picture. 2" does not seem a lot of extra rise but it really is a lot.
In the picture it looks all wonky & thats because it is, at that point they are just place on the triple tree and not tightened down.

* 2" Riser Install Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0114
The cables do look like they are stretched to the limit with the risers installed but they actually do have a little play in them. There is no way you can go any higher than a 2" riser over stock on the bike after the 2009 model. This really is the limit without extended cables.

* 2" Riser Install Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0116
I like them a lot & the riding position is absolutely 10x better and the bike looks better with the bars raised up that little bit more. I am also very happy that I have got the extra hieght and been able to keep the stock handle bars in place as I really like the classic cruiser look and the bars are part of that.

Cheers Dave

Nice write up - always a pain doing photos while you work but so helpful to others! I like the result - the chrome looks fine to me. Impressed that you feel the ride is a lot better. Look great. Now all I have to decide is whether to go for 10" apes or 2" risers. Both these would stretch the cables to the limit I think

Went for a ride today for about 1.5 hrs solid & the difference the 2" risers made was wonderful. The ride position feels so much better, it's feels so good to have your hands up higher. I know it's only 2" but I felt I had to reiterate the difference that it makes, simply because it really does & at only £28.00 delivered it's a mod that I would recommend.

I'm in a dilemma now.
I was thinking of changing the bars to a higher and slightly narrower set
because I really like the oe risers, but these don't affect the 'look' of the oe risers too much,
and it would save me stripping all the controls. Hmmm....

Nice job on the riser install. I just did the same myself. I bought my 2" risers on eBay for about $22. Included the risers and the new, longer bolts and nuts. The whole install took about one hour. I am very happy with the riser install. However, the riser install does leave the cables pretty tight. Tighter than I felt comfortable with. So this weekend I set about extending the cables. All the electrical cables are now extended by about 4 inches. I have a background in electronics, so itwas pretty easy. I undid the two small screws holding the headlight in, released the headlight front assembly, setting it down on a towing, and went about extending the cables with some electrical wire, solder, soldering iron, shrink wrap, electrical tape, and a heat gun. About an hour later, I had extended both the left and right wiring. Before I soldered the extensions in, I slid a niçe, shiny, 1/2" rubber tubing over the entire wire, all the way up to the brake/throttle, and clutch levers. Once I was done, put it all back together, and wire tied everything together. Everything looks great, the only thing I need to do noe is extend the throttle cables and clutch cable, which I do not feel comfortable doing. Had anybody extended these cables? I will be creating a new thread so I don't end up talking over this thread. By the way, Mr. Intruder, what model of Tachometer did you use? I am not sure what brand and type of tach to use ...

I was also concerned at first with regards to cable length but felt that they were at the limit but not beyond it. However of I had your Knowledge and ability I may very well of done the same or possibly even gone a for a slightly higher rise.
As for the Tach I bought the Baron but it was a bitch to get it to work properly, I changed all the connectors to get a better fit but for you that won't be an issue.

And welcome to the site, when you get a minute pop in the relevant section and introduce yourself to the members

Hi just reading your posts very good write up Dave,a lot of people put their cables this side of the triple tree to give more freedom on the cables,just an idea,a good cheap fix.With your tool roll,and screen they would not look to much out of place.

I fitted some of these myself today and I've got to say what a difference they make ! it feels so much better £23 from some American company
E-bay Link

They seem quite cheap for other things too , feedbacks not brilliant but the risers are pretty good and came within a week.

I was interested in this - so much so I went out to my bike to make some investigations. I removed the handlebar clamps and had a stretch of the cables. I was not happy with 2"...... I" maybe but probably not worth it for that so I think I will stay as I am. Shame because they look good and easy to fit.

I've checked my cable's and they're not pulling tight anywhere when I turn the bars from one side to the other on full lock, I wonder if it's because you have your bars more upright than mine ?

Hi John I have won a set of VL800 bars off ebay and what I have done whilst waiting for bars to arrive is place all my control and electric cables to the inside of the trees,this does give you more to play with ,I have been out riding,with my m800 bars on and not found any discomfort or chaffing in any way.Will take photos when the bars arrive,and I fit them.This is a way of getting more higher with your risers without changing any cables,or brake line.

Thanks for your supportive comments guys. They no doubt would go on with a bit of cable fiddling. I tried with my bars pushed forward and the cables appear to 'relax' a bit compared to back. I don't think the cables would pull, rather be at their limits. I think it's no more that the cables seem to be right for the factory riser and I just personally feel a bit uncomfortable taking things any further. Never say never, mind!

Fitted and tried on a short test ride. they seem to make a world of difference but I won't really know until I ride further than a couple of miles which is all I've had chance to do.

Cables are stretched but not overstretched as per other's comments on this thread ... having said that, I wouldn't even think of going over the 2" rise that I have as the cables would definitely need re-routing at the very least.

The only awkward part is moving the brake line,you will have to bleed your front brake after.A good time to replace your brake fluid.

I did not move any cables, they all stayed in front of the triple tree. I was happy that they were fine and not being stretched, although I would not have gone any higher on stock cables.
If memory serves me right the cables were shortened in 2007. The shortened cables also meant that the maximum height for ape hanger bars was reduced from 12" to 10" with standard cables.

Hi everyone, just fitted these 2" risers, fairly easy fit once I was able to crack the bolts off. Found the new bolt could do with being a tad longer to accommodate the locking nut, left off one of the washers so that it tightened up snugly. This was a fairly cheap mod, $22 plus $16 postage but no import duty..... yeh!
Everyone calls them a 2" riser but in fact they are 2" extension in reality, so I suppose once fitted the riser is about, what, 4"?
Only bought these because others had recommended them. Thanks, excellent for the money, and make a real difference.

I like it when new members get info passed down from a while back, all due to the forum search facility and well organised archives.  * 2" Riser Install Suzuki C800 / C50 * 3498837457

I don't mind the stock set up, it is a little far forward and low though so I'm sure it will be a nice improvement.
Just another excuse to mod lol

Just a heads up before anyone orders the same ones I did. Turns out they cost about 45p over the non customs charge, and so ive had to fork out a further £11.38 to have them delivered.
Annoying, makes them quite expensive but couldnt find anything suitable in this country.

Got them fitted. Was quite tricky as the kit provided nylon lock nuts which made tightening them up difficult.
Also not overly keen on the slightly narrower bolts provided compared to stock, causes a little bit of flex in the steering until tightened right down. The stock bolts by comparison fit perfectly through the yoke hole. Seem sturdy enough once bolted together though.
Not rode yet but sitting on the bike feels much more laid back and comfortable.

Eazy I have the same risers installed on my Trike. I did replace the bolts with same sized bolts as stock. Have ridden many thousands of miles with no problem. They really made a big change in riding position.

Some, but not all, manufacturers in the US have moved into the 21st century and joined the rest of the world in using metric sizes. My C800 has 14 mm bolts oem and I have had to use 14mm bolts on the new risers. I don't know what you mean by slightly smaller. Have you used 12mm  or 1/2 inch UNC instead of 14mm? You need to sort it or the bars will twist. And it will play on your mind forever. If they've provided 12mm bolts the extensions will also be 12mm. They may be 9/16 inch UNC, which is very close to 14mm.

Not sure what the size provided is, but the OEM nuts just slid down the new longer bolts.
There's no flex when its all tightened up and since the lock nuts are nylon I cant see them coming loose. Ill see how it performs. The socket I used to remove the nuts was the same one for both sets, but the threaded diameter is smaller.
Also where can I buy those plastic chrome bolt covers as one broke when I tried to remove it

Do you mean the bit of plastic that fits into the allen heads in the bar clamps?  The Suzuki part number isis 09250-06009.  I left mine off when I fitted my 3" extensions - thought they looked a bit "plasticky" - you're welcome to them if I can dig them out

No worries I found some on Ebay. You can buy satin black ones too which might look nice on dark bikes
