| While I had my rear wheel off my VZ800 I noticed the bearings were a bit rough. Has anyone changed them? Is it just a case of knocking the bearing out from the opposite side or does it require special tools? | |

| Nah dead easy Harry, carefully knock out from opposite side, & remember if any spacers came out as well & which side. Clean out the old grease, there won't be much believe me! I put some extra grease into the bearing as they also don't have much in them & then put into the freezer overnight. Put some fresh grease into the hub centre & put one bearing in first, then the centre tube & any spacers obviously & then tap in the other bearing with a soft hammer & when you think they're fully home use a soft punch to finally tap home the bearings on both sides, never use a punch or hammer on the inner race as you will destroy the bearing before you start! Most important thing is to keep everything clean as you go even down to cleaning the wheel hub itself before you take the old bearings out. BTW some folk warm up the hub before you take the bearings out & also put them back but I've only had to resort to this action once when the bearings were literally rusted into the hub!
Oh & some manufacturers put rubber shields into both sides of the bearing. I carefully prise the seal out on one side & put more grease into the bearing because as I said they don't put much grease into the bearings when they make the things & then if I can I put the shield back in again. | |

| Thanks peter, pulled the rear wheel out and noticed the spacer tube inside the hub. Pushed it to the side and tapped the bearings out with an old screw driver and a hammer. Will tap the new bearings in tomorrow. | |
