K&N Air Filter Directly On Carb Empty
PostSubject: K&N Air Filter Directly On Carb   K&N Air Filter Directly On Carb Icon_minitimeTue Jul 25, 2017 6:39 pm

So i bought a 1999 VS800 Intruder and took it home. My first bike so i stalled it a lot and burnt out the starter solenoid. After taking the seat off i noticed the Air filter housing box doesnt have an air filter in it and is just empty left with a big hole in it and the carburetor has a K&N air filter stuck directly on it, no hose no nothing just mounted straight on. The bike also has an aftermarket exhaust, i should mention. I was wondering, is this ok? The bike runs but it was stalling out a LOT. Is the air filter being put right on the carb okay? What about the empty hole in the air filter housing? Should i just take the air filter housing out completely since it is doing nothing? I dont know what the breather and drain hoses at the bottom do or if they are even still there. Or should i try finding the tubing the connect the K&N to the carb and do it back to normal?

Chances are with a K & N ( much more free flowing than the OEM unit ) directly mounted to the carb and aftermarket exhausts, the carb(s) will need re-jetting if it / they haven't been already. This would explain the poor running.
