Fed up with the amount of shite that makes its way under the front mud guard, I decided to make a mud flap to stop a little extra making its way back.
I had some old saddlebags that have been under my workbench for years and decided as I will never use them again, so I decided to use one of them for my mud flap. The old leather will work well as it is about 3mm thick so will hold up well although the leather had become miss shaped over the years (I will deal with that later).

So after initially cutting out a section of the leather, I started marking out the leather with my pencil & cutting with my trusty dremmell

* Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0277

After finishing the cutting I ended up with the following

* Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * IMG_0278

The only issue I have now is that the leather is bent and miss shaped but thats not an issue. What I did now was to spray the flap numerous times with wd40 until the leather could take no more. I did this because to re-shape the leather flat it was going to be put on the flat top of my boiler inside a bag with a couple of bricks on top for a couple of days. The WD40 soaked leather would then be rejuvenated and the heat and pressure would re flatten the previously bent leather.

Next I cleaned up the edges with my bench grinder, little unusual maybe but it did a good job

Next I drilled 3 4mm holes in the mud guard to take the flap. I then found the center of the flap and bolted that in position before doing the two sides.
At least now the road shite will not be all over the center of my chrome crash bars and chrome rad grill.

You could use various things to make a mud flap such as rubber but I used what I had to hand & I am happy with the result

Another very nice, and well prepared mod. * Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * 2170595768 Is the flap of leather now quite rigid? would it be easily damaged if it hit the road somehow, as it doesnt have lots of ground clearance. A softish peice might just bend, but you wouldnt want it to be so rigid it damages the actual front mudguard

Thanks for the nice comments guys * Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * 433968

Joe the leather is 3mm thick so will stay well in shape well but as its leather has flexibility so it would bend if required. I actually forgot about it yesterday and went down a high kerb next tom my house and it bent over then just sprung back. so it should be OK, fingers crossed * Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * 1211191488

That's a proper job. Lucky that you had such quality material to hand - Suzuki couldn't match that. The shiny fixings give it a studded look which is very in keeping with the style of bike. Funnily enough when I saw yours Mr.I, I had just come out of the garage after fixing a fender extender on my V-Strom. I made it out of an Asda clipboard cut to shape and secured with impact adhesive. It must be the season for such things! Mine is not nearly so sustantial though it does the job intended at a fraction of the Suzuki accessory cost.

That what I like to see, home made cheap alternatives to the rip off's that the shops sell.
It's surprising how a little extension like that will make all the difference * Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * 2170595768

My mud flap has been on my bike for 2 months now and it has been dramatic how much difference it has made. This simple mod has made cleaning so much easier as it is now deflecting all the road crap back to the road and I have also noticed that I am not getting dirty at all around my lower legs or boots. So all in all its probably been one of the cheapest but effective mods I have done & I done a fair few * Home Made Mud Flap (front) For Suzuki C800 / C50 * 852880
