| This chart shows relative db levels and likely danger to hearing: chart
85 is pretty quiet. Aftermarkets with baffles are about 95 I think and straight through pipes 100 or over. Just guessing here. Would like to see some actual figures if anyone can help?

| Good chart Blues, very handy. I am going to email Vance and Hines with regard to my Cruzers with baffles in and out. If we all emailed the manufacturers of our specific exhausts and asked for the DB levels with and without baffles we could build a nice little data base. C'mon guys, it'll only take you a minute or two and would be very useful. | |

| Have just sent an email to Highway Hawk regards Short Cuts. They say they will reply to questions in 1 business day - so we will see! If they get more than 1 request for db levels, they might wonder what's going on! Of course the way in which the levels are done may vary between manufacturers. The only real way would be to use a sound meter at exactly the same distance at idle and then again at fixed revs. At least the feedback from manufacturers will give us a base line. I often hear pipes described as quite loud, loud, bloody loud, deafening etc....it will be nice to put these comments in context. | |

| I finally got a reply from Jardine ... they say the pipes are produced for race use only, consequently they do not know the dB levels .
Freemo .... 95dB sounds about right for mine at tickover too bud

| Done mine today with soundmeter on phone. At ticker over in normal area it read 85/86 when revved up briefly it went to just over 90.Done the same to my mates VTX 1800 not a lot of difference.Bearing in mind this is only on software on the Samsung Galaxy phone not official equipment. | |

| The db meter that comes for the IPhone-4 is actually very good source for db levels. My mate has a proper meter and we cross referenced it against the IPhone. What we found is that the meter gives a very good reading of db level. When placed near to the exhaust but out of the flow just behind the end of the exhaust we found with the V&h Cruzers and HK quiet baffles was that it gave a db level of 95 at tickover but 110 at 3000rpm. I will try it soon without the extra baffles. | |

| Regarding the pipes, I cut the silencers off the Jardine Rumblers, the turn out ends have been welded on taken from a section of a bull bar and then exhaust wrapped. No baffles at all but did fix the lambda sensor | |
