Hi guys. I am about to fit some new drag bars and 8" flat top risers to my Marauder. I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick run down of how to remove the stock grips so that I can remove the switches and what not from the stack bars to swap over to the new bars. Thanks guys!!!

After taking your bar end weights off, which you want to do slowly by releasing the screw at the end a bit at a time and pulling at them when they come off hopefully in one piece if you take your time, get a hacksaw blade or knife and place it under the grip and try and turn it round the bar,in effect taking the glue off,you can then try pulling at the grips in the process this should start to take them off. There are some details on the forum some were, the hard part is not to try and yank the bar ends off, or loosen the screw to much as you will leave part of the bar end mechanism in the bars. The way it works is as you loosen the bar end weight it slackens a rubber bush inside the bar,if you loosen it too much the nut and washer will stay in the bars and the rest will come out.Just take your time it is an easy job.Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
I've found that you can usually pry part of the rubber grip end away from the handle bars then squirt in some WD40 (Using the thin red plastic pipe). If you remove the switchgear first (by removing the screws from the underside of the housings) then you can 'attack' the grips at both ends. If you then apply a twisting action on the grip it should start to work lose. further applications of WD40 will help - but it usually softens the adhesive enough to loosen the grip fairly quickly.

The switch housing usually have a small lug on the inside that locates on a hole drilled in the stock bars. This is just to stop the assembly rotating on the bars. Some people just remove the lug & trust they can generate enough clamping pressure of the housing onto the bar ..... alternatively you can drill a hole in the new bars to receive the lug .... there are suggestions on how to do that on one of the other topics in this section.

Hi,
as you can see, after removing bar end weights, the right throttle side is no brainer, just loose the wires, and it comes right off. It's the left side, which is always more problematic, usually glued on somehow.

If you do not want to destroy the stock grips (like I didn't, leaving the option to use them maybe later), I recommend this method in the video to remove the left grip. I used it, and it worked great:

Good luck!

Yep,

That works, making a simple wire tool, but I'm surprised they did not mention the use of lubrication !

Anything to pry the rubber grip off the handle bar to start things is a logical idea, the use of WD40 - which is a 'Water Dispersant' based on fish oil, helps loosen everything up & speeds up the process - Plus is easy enough to clean off afterwards.

Marry the 2 ideas & you can't go wrong ! How to remove the stock grips? 184121345
