Hi Chris, I'm not sure it would work? later models have a different clock layout with a fuel gauge as well as a low fuel warning light, the fitment on the tank for the clock housing is different also.

On my '01 VL, I have five blocks - the last one flashes when there's about 30 miles left - although it caught me out not long after buying it.  Soon as I hit one bar, I'm looking for fuel - I re-set my trip at fill-ups & around the 100 mile mark I'll fill up

My 05 VOL had the 5 bars with no warning light.
My current 05 C800 has a warning light with no 5 bars lol. I'd prefer the bars to the light but i'm not too bothered either way.

My 05 m800 just has the "hard lines you're about to run out of fuel" light that blinks at you as an early warning, then lights solid. Tbh it's the one thing I'm not too keen on with the bike. I'd prefer something more precise.

I'm tempted to test just how much fuel there is left when the light starts flashing, by carrying a couple litres of spare fuel on board and logging the miles.

Have a full five litre can at home. Empty tank completely, then ad  the five litres. Log mileage. Ride to nearest filling station. Fill up & log mileage  /amount of fuel taken to brim tank. Ride as normal. When light comes on, note mileage. Fill up & again note mileage. You will be able to work out approx mpg / distance to warning light / empty etc.  Not perfect, but as long as you remember to zero your trip, will give you a rough guide.  And cheaper than retro-fitting a fuel gauge
