| Hello fellow 800 owners. This is a great site. Thank you all who maintain and post here. I love the useful information and talk.
I want to put a tach on my 92 VS800 but not sure where or how to mount it. I was hoping i could get some ideas from members that have done this mod. The bars are stock and there is not a lot of room for mounting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

| Hi Charlie Both Mick & myself have both fitted tachos recently. I went for the Daytona Velona after reading of the problems Mick had with his first purchase. I don't know how the bar layout is on your bike, but the Daytona is a small unit. Looking at photo's, you should be able to fit a small unit by the side of the bar clamps. It's worth having a read of both of the posts so you have an idea of what you need to look for. If you have any questions ask away | |

| Hi Charlie, As you'll see, my tacho is dash mounted so not suitable for your bike. Dave's Daytona looks and performs beautifully and as he says its small ( around 3" diameter Dave ? ) so looks well on the 800. Don't be tempted by cheaper tachos .. you'll find the needle will bounce around all over when the bike is moving. Make sure, whichever one you buy, that it is operated by a "stepper motor" This type should give you a steady reading under any condition. As Dave said, you'll find lots of info on both my " Dash Panel" thread and Dave's thread. Hope it helps bud | |

| Gentlemen, Thanks for the advise. I read thru the links and posts you sent and as usual they were filled with good info and useful advise. I would surely have bought a cheepo tach and installed before I found out the needle jumps all around if I didnt come here first. Def saved me a lot of time and aggravation. Thats why I love this site. I am currently surfing multiple /any site I can find to locate the right tach for me. ( NO cheepos) I am still not sure of the mounting but I guess I should find a unit first then worry about mounting. Simbo-Thanks for the link but I dont think digital is for me although mounting would be a breeze. I am old school when it comes to gauges. I am like others, I want to see the needle sweep in tune with the engine. I am still open to any suggestions. Ill post a pic with results if I can ever locate the right thing for me. BTW I just added K&N filters, Stage 1 jet kit and V&H Classic slip-ons. I am in love all over again!! The sound is perfect!!
Cheers for now :) | |
