Does anyone know if the brake hoses are the same for K6 onwards as the K5?  A lot of suppliers seem to be listing theirs as K6 onwards and when I query to see if it will fit mine they say it wont be suitable for my K5.  I was under the impression they were almost identical bikes?

Yes, K5/K6 are the same part, K7/8/9 onwards have a different master cylinder but probably the same brake fluid hose with an updated part number.
