| Hello , I m David and I just bought a 1986 intruder vs750. i Know this is a VS800 forum but its the most informative forum I found, and my bike is fitted with a 21 inch front wheel from an 800 so... I bought it after months abandoned in all weather condition and the weather has done its damage, mainly on the rear wheel, but I managed to clean all superficial rust. Some aftermarket chrome , like forward controls also rusted a bit, but nothing serious. Otherwise engine chrome is very nice and shiny. Also Mileage is not high , 57500 kms. I change minor things, like fork oil seal, disk brake and fuel hose. I m waiting for a brand new tank I found online to replace existing one, as it has been repaired and is leaking just a little fuel. All the bike needed was a garage in which it can sleep, and a little love. I am using it 2 times a week to go to work with, and to get use on the wide (very wide) handlebars and forward controls, this is also my fist custom bike, my other bike being a Moto Guzzi v7 Racer and a modern Vespa, it was quite strange in the beginning, but now i m enjoying every minute of it, and considering its age, it handles pretty well. I think I will converting it into a bobber , I think its a great bike for a bobber conversion. A little thing that is keeping me thinking is the front wheel shaft. Previous owners changed the factory fork yokes with wider ones, and I think the shaft is a bit short for this set up. Can anyone advise me from were I can buy a longer shaft that fits. or maybe another solution? Thank you in advance David Malta | |

| Welcome to the world of Intruders. You may be one of the lucky folks. Take a look at the log book, if the frame # begins:VR51A-xxxxxx you have the Sportster killer (does not count for the 800's), pre export model kicking out 62 hp as compared to the later de-tuned 55 hp models. These little monsters will rev up to 9000 rpm as opposed to the limited 7000 rpm on later models. Give her a good service, synch the carbs and don't be afraid of the beautiful sound at WOT. As for the front axle, a local machine shop can knock you up one to your spec's pretty cheaply. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber on the ground. | |
