| I mentioned in another thread that I will be adding mud flaps soon that I will be making, however at the time I was and still am unsure of what material I would use. I would like a bit of input though if anyone thinks that leather would be a bad choice. The reason I have decided to try to make them out of leather is firstly because I noticed in Mistress K's Thread that she used leather and secondly because I have some rather thick but old leather saddle bags in my workshop that I could cut up for this mod. The reason I am adding mud flaps is mostly down to the amount of shite that splatters all over the front of the bike from the front wheel when the roads are wet & I will be making the front hang about an inch or so lower than the one's pictured. A picture of Mistress K's leather mud flaps that gave me the idea

| Hi Mr I,
Aslong as you seal the leather with something to stop it rotting. I see no reason why it shouldn't work and look good?
Maybe you could even get away with some of that quality leather food/preservative that is designed for hiking boots etc? Use it as it's intended on the outside but slap it on thick on the inside. |

| Cool that's the response I was hoping for do you think something like dubbing would be OK. To be honest the bike doesn't actually go out that much when it's wet so they wouldn't be wet very often. | |

| Yes mate, Dubbing would be spot on except you'd have to reapply it from time to time. Twice a year should do the trick though if your not getting it soaked on a regular basic or leaving it wet in an unventalated area for weeks on end. You must have gone back to a pair of boots or gloves that you left wet in the garage for weeks only to find them growing a nice green fur coat? The same could happen to your mudflap unless you keep on top of the dubbing/drying routine.
I saw some that looked like Mistress K's on a cruiser website a while back in the bargain bin section. They were black rubber but with a leather grain finish. F#cked if I can remember what site is was though? |

| I think I will give it a go then with the Leather & if it works OK, then alls good but if they do grow a nice new fur coat I will consider buying a rubber matt to cut up. The leather bags I will cut up are knackered so I have nothing to loose in the first instance! | |

| You can always give the leather one a trial if it turns out to be no good you can find something else to make it with. | |

| Leather or rubber would be good. I thought of making them recently out of a slip-in A4 folder cover made out of thick black plastic (cuttable). | |

| That's not a bad plan, I reckon I will have to find a high kerb to reverse over 2morrow. They normally do a good job at ripping them off | |
