| I'm working on an old 97' Marauder and I've gotten the rest of the bike restored, but I can not sort out these clutch issues. There's been some slipping ever since I acquired the bike, so I took it apart and inspected it, found a couple clutch springs were missing, I guess the previous owner thought it would be fine and assembled it that way, all the plates seemed okay. so i picked up a second engine that was blown up, used the clutch springs and stuff from it, and when reassembling and carefully torquing to spec (10 Nm), the clutch cam (part number 21613-45C02, the inner piece that the pressure plate bolts to) snapped into two pieces. Luckily I had the second engine, so I pulled that one, replaced the part, torqued everything down without issue, and took it for a drive, still slipping. (Yes i'm using proper oil, i've flushed it out with fresh suzuki motorcycle oil a couple times to be sure). Decided I needed stiffer springs, so I ordered those, got them in. And when I torqued them down, it actually bent the fingers of the clutch cam up toward the pressure plate, instead of pulling the pressure plate against the clutch pack. Is this just a weak old part? Or am I doing something wrong here that I don't understand? clutches are normally pretty simple, I don't get why this is happening and I don't want to drop more money on it without knowing whether or not it's going to work.
Also if anyone has another one of those that they'd be willing to sell me for less than $150 USD that would be great, because right now I'm considering just getting a stronger one machined. Thanks! | |

| Sorry for your troubles. Bike Bandit has that part for about $116. | |

| Make sure the pressure return hole is clear in the bottom of the clutch master cylinder. If clogged it will cause pressure to build up and make the clutch slip. A good indication of this is when the longer you ride, the worse the slipping gets. It could be that the reason parts got bent when you tried to put the clutch together, was that there was still pressure on the slave cylinder. | |
