VX800 Cam/rocker cover replacement Empty

Hi

Both my cam covers are cracked around the lug forming the top engine mount. I have got replacement covers just wondering if these can be replaced with the engine in the frame?

My cunning plan is to do the minimum strip down to create access to the covers i.e remove tank, airboxes, carbs. Disconnect rad hoses, disconnect exhaust headers. Remove the top engine mounts including the triangular plates bolted to the frame, I should then have access to all the cover bolts, so far so good.

However, 2 bolts on each cover, are over 200mm long and they cannot be removed as they foul the bike frame. So my clever idea is to support the engine weight on a trolley jack and block of wood. Remove all the other engine mounting bolts and then, and it works on Wheeler Dealers, try to move the engine a few mil to the left and then to the right so the long bolts can move clear of the frame, engine only needs to move a small amount to achieve this.

Anyone tried this before?

Anyone interested to hear how it goes lol its a winter project so I wont start work probably until Nov.
