Well here's an update. I have fully stripped down my bike, checked the driveshaft and all good. Lubed it up with some moly and put it back together. Whilst the bike was in bits, I have cleaned all the filthy inaccessible areas and painted the rust with black hammerite smooth. I've now removed the clutch and the plates were burnt out and everything stunk of burn, including the oil. I've got new plates and springs and here is where it all hit the fan... Two of the spring bolts snapped inside the clutch housing/basket!!!!! I thought I was only torquing them to 7 lb/foot but one snapped and as it tried to undo another, it also snapped. Am now considering buying a new housing if I can remove the existing one without a removal tool (using a dog lead appears to work but we shall see) Are the VL800/VS800/C800/C50/M800 all the same clutch parts? Also if anyone has a clutch basket/housing, let me know

Find the part here - it will cross reference which other machines the same part will fit.

You're right with the torque measurements - are they the original bolts you have ? They've not been replaced with titanium ?

Cheers for the parts link. Yes they are the original clutch bolts. Where would I source titanium bolts to fit? Would stainless steel ones be ok?

I managed to remove the housing using a rachet strap and have now received a new housing.

Would prefer to sort bolts before I embark on this next part

Do not go for titanium - they're a nightmare. They have a lower shear factor than steel. They stretch then snap. Go for stainless every time. I use Pro-Bolt - buy a set of new ones
