Jesus, that is terrible news Nigel. Glad you're ok. The hard bit will be trying to identify/remember all the tools and other gear for putting in a claim.

That must have been a hell of a blow, can only praise you for your pragmatic attitude though, hats off to you.

Great to see a smile Nigel.  Not sure I could be smiling if that'd happened to me.  But then, I'm a miserable of git at the best of times. Keep smiling and look forward to seeing the 'Phoenix' soon!

Garage fire - nightmare.  Nearly lost mine a few years back - luckily, the bikes alarm going off (as it was going up in flames) alerted me & I managed to catch it before it took hold.  Reckon another thirty seconds & I'd have lost the lost.

first thing I did was go out & buy a fire extinguisher.  I think we sometimes forget how much volatile/flammable substances we store in a garage - must check up on my insurance !!

Hope you manage to salvage something from it

Sorry to hear about the fire, but at least you are OK and it was 'contained'.

always a bit of a strain, this kind of incident, as it can refocus the mind, but I'm sure you can move on with the strength gained from this setback.

Best wishes

Funny you should say that Mart, that,s exactly what I was going to do  Project Virago - Page 13 3005623951 The insurance company were excellent, received the cheque on Saturday and got to keep the bike as well, we made good progress last week and the skip is now pretty full. Dave (Mr Intruder) has kindly said the bikes can be kept at his place until the garage is rebuilt, have also been looking for another Virago, found an 1100 chasing it up today, this also means once everything is up and running again the engine and ancillaries can be used for the "81" Virago frame ,this will be a summer ride for me, but will have to de-road Queen it somewhat, this is another bike with an identity crisis, wants to be a cruiser but just doesn't cut the mustard, found this video, nice looking conversion but it isn,t the 1100 engine like the title suggests...

It's always nice to hear when Insurance companies actually do the job we expect them to! Cracking result and a new bike on the horizon - great to see you smiling through it all!

Yep, good to hear the insurance company sorted it pronto, pretty impressed tbh, that's how it should be.

The 1100 is a fairly torquey lump so maybe a set of flat bars on stilts, small neat bikini fairing plus much blackness a la laid back cafe racer type thing might work well.

I can see it in my head but putting into words is always awkward.

You are definitely on my wavelength Mart, will definitely have to move the footrests back a bit being short in the leg, my Bike insurance company is Carole Nash, and our house and contents policy is with Axa, excellent work from both of them, just popping off to do another thread  Project Virago - Page 13 3005623951
