Hi guys i have been thinking of replacing my fuel tank (the old one is fine but has a small dint) and that got me thinking owuld a 2006 tank with the centre console on the tank including a fuel gauge fit and what work would be needed to get it to work .As doing log trips and having an aftermarket speedo (previous owner fitted) has no trip meter so a gauge would be so helpful ,If not does anyone know a good place to get a 96>98 tank the pain finish don't matter as i am all blown over to match but cannot see anything in the UK to fit and shipping from the USA makes things silly money

Not sure how the fuel gauge would work? Mines on 05 m800 and has just a yellow warning light which flashes occasionally to say "you're getting low" then stays lit to say "fill up idiot" I would imagine a proper fuel gauge which actually shows the level would need a different sender, but I may be over complicating it.

As for where to source a tank, have you tried any breakers?  Sorry, not much help, good luck in your search.

Not much help here either sorry  1996>98 fuel tank modernization 474255  I've been reading a little on fuel gauge sensors tonight though  study , Apparently it can be done and they work on the pressure of the fuel in the tank, but you need to match the same ohms as the original gauge, which is? Not got a clue sorry, So from what I've read, you might be better fitting the tank if possible and fitting a separate fuel gauge and sensor.

Hi Vincent75,
I don't know if the M800 tank will fit on a VZ800 but anything is possible and you may be able to make it fit,,, the VZ has a remote fuel pump ( behind the right hand side cover ) and the M800 has the fuel pump inside the fuel tank, up to 2007 I believe their is no fuel gauge but a fuel warning lamp in the centre tank counsel, after 2007 I believe that Suzuki began to fit fuel gauges within the speedo,,the fuel pumps and electrics are different within the tanks, up to 2007 and after 2007 tanks, and also the speedo`s are different, the tanks electrics and speedo`s talk to each other and work in tandem,, if your after market speedo has a built in fuel gauge and it works , within the Ohm range, as Sim said, as the Suzuki fuel gauge work ( most motorcycles after market gauges do ) then you would probable get it to work,,, the original equipment seems to work via  Thermistors (in my day they just called them resistors ) giving higher or lower degrees of resistance , ohm reading, depending how much fuel is in the tank and translating that to a higher or lower fuel level reading,,,, it will be an awful lot of work needed make this work. Would it not be easer to fix the small dent in the tank and then fit a cycle trip meter,, they are cheap you can buy them for £5 on E-bay,,, the VZ 800 holds 13 litre of fuel 10 litres normal use then switch over to reserve for last 3 litres, from full my VZ 800 does 115 miles before it stutters and farts and the reserve needs switching on.
A  few years ago a group of us rode to the south of France, before we went one friend had concern over the relatively small size of his VZ`s fuel tank and decided to make his tank bigger and fit a chrome analogue gas cap fuel gauge like the old Harley's used but in the end if I recall correctly he used a filler cap fuel gauge from a generator fuel tank,,, the work to enlarge his tank was done by the people in the link below and he got them to fit and weld the mounting for the fuel gauge cap at the same time, he adjusted the gauge by noting ware the needle was with the tank empty, it read empty, and then filling his tank and seeing ware the fuel gage needle came to rest and then he repainted the gauge face to suit,,, he measured before he bought the gauge and bought one that would just fit in the tank to get a near as accurate as he could.
Hope this is of some help mate.
