Afternoon gents - I realise this rather goes against previous posts about forward set footrests, but please hear me out!

This VX800 bobber has been on eBay for many months. It's not my cup of tea but it has some simple looking (cheap!?) forward set foot controls:

I'd like to copy this idea for the pegs only (not the controls) on my VX. There's not much space beneath the radiator - the previous owner above attached a horizontal bar to the frame - but surely there are off-the-shelf brackets available that would be able to push the pegs clear of the exhausts without bars or drilling, etc.? Or am I being naive? Again.

(I've seen some nice Indian forward pegs for $300 - each!! - and some very nice Highway Hawk pegs for a mere $700. If we assume I have about a tenth of that in quids, am I stuffed?)

Cheers,

Chris

So I was thinking of something like these on Amazon.

However, these come from China (extra costs - a single review says £12 on top of the £58 price) and are for crash bar-mount. But there must be cheap clamps like this for frame mount? Innit?

Cheers,

Chris

This Tengchang company on Amazon (who produce the above foot pegs) are amazing - they sell almost everything: pegs, engine case, tanks, saddles, farings, electronics, sticky tape...! Awesome: and I've never heard of them. There are a few good reviews (good quality stuff) but ordering from China? It's not like returning stuff is an option...

But, the above pegs, they're specifically for crash-bar mount: why couldn't they be frame mounted instead (asuming they'd fit)? Am I just displaying my boundless ignorance once again?

Cheers,

Chris

Sorry, I cant visualise what you want to fix onto.

Are there crash bar mounting points on the frame you could utilise?

Would something like this work?

A better picture of the VX800 frame.

Morning gents - that's the problem Mal, there are no obvious mounting points. The eBay pegs would have nothing to nail to.

Thanks for the picture Andrew - nice and clear. As it shows, the right side is fine and maybe even the Tenchang pegs above would work but the left side has the coolant hose exiting beneath the radiator which would fowl any bracket attachment. Maybe that's why the guy who owned the bobber used a bar?

These Hepco & Becker crash bars do show a fixing of some sort right under the frame, but I've not been under the bike to check this yet. The fixing might be a possibility:

The bike's going in for surgery next week... again... so maybe they'll have some ideas. (That is, cheap and easy ideas - no drilling or welding.)

Thanks again guys.

Cheers,

Chris

Those crash bars would help out in 2 ways Chris, in the possibility of an accident & they would give you somewhere to fix the pegs at the same time.

Morning Peter - I agree.

Although crash bars are certainly not the way I wanted to go, I am running out of (financially viable) options. These bars retail for £135 new but I've seen them for $60 on eBay.com and, more recently, for £47.50 in the UK. Unfortunately, the listing ended two months ago...

However, crash bars would make fitting pegs much simpler (that is, cheaper!) as simple pegs can be £20-ish. (I also saw this highway bar on eBay.com for about £40 with postage, but it's nasty-cheap, and I'm not sure it would attach - and the u-clamps would damage the frame.)

So I'll aim for the crash bars for now - not least because I can't ride for more than an hour without forward pegs... (It wasn't like this 30 years ago!)

Cheers Peter,

Chris

I'd wrap some rubber inner tube round the frame Chris or some duct tape & then trim it to fit but it depends on the width between the down tubes & the same for the barley twist bar cos if they don't match you may as well walk away from them.
