| Hi All It's only taken 18 months but I have finally fitted a pair of cameras to the bike. In the end I opted for the Innovv K2 cameras. It's a brand new design so I was/am expecting teething troubles but they are well made and presented with a good specification. Available from September 2018, I pre ordered mine in August and they arrived in early September.
They are now fitted and had their first serious run out to a rally on 20th September. I've never had anything to do with dash cams before so the whole experience is new to me. First issue was positioning the front camera. Initially I put it on the front crashbar but I got some very good footage of the front wheel going round! I moved it higher, just under the screen, but the mounting was all wrong - vibrated like hell - so it is now mounted just under the screen but bolted to the headlight mounting bolt. I had to make a quite substantial bracket to stop the vibration. The video is now quite good and I am pleased with it.
Next up is a problem with battery drain - it draws 40ma with the ignition off. Because they want instant gps and a method of powering up when the bike is parked (works off the G sensor) the power unit goes directly to the battery. Not an option to leave it like that so I've wired it to the PDM60 accessory fuse panel. It means I forgo the "park mode" but I probably wouldn't have used that anyway.
There is a G sensor that 'senses' when you have a bit of a mishap and saves the files. I have heard of this in the dashcam world, and it sounds nice, but it just isn't practical. Over half the files were being 'locked' because the sensor thinks every little bump is an 'accident, even with the sensor is at it's lowest sensitivity setting. So I've disabled the sensor! I now have a 128gb sd card fitted and, with 2 cameras, gives 10 hours of full HD video. If I want to keep some files, for whatever reason, I will swap the SD card for a 68gb card I now carry as a spare! Talking to my son-in-law, who drives a taxi, it is the same with cars and he always carries a spare card for that reason.
The designer/manufacturer is aware of these issues, plus some others, as he has a forum set up for reporting. Little things that crop up from mass usage are usually catered for with a firmware update in 2 or 3 weeks. Some people seem to be a bit impatient with it but I like the setup.
I've got a walk round video of the fitting but I can't seem to put it on here - it says it is too big. And I don't know how to put it on you tube either! The size is 279MB. Any help on that score would be nice.
